Sky Blue EQ4 is a free and open-source EQ plugin by Aris Kiriki-Liszt, modeled after the Maag Audio EQ4M, which is an improved version of the original NTI EQ3. The NTI EQ3 is known for introducing the Air Band, and the EQ4M enhances this with better design and higher tolerance components, providing more headroom.

The Sky Blue EQ4 offers five fixed-frequency bands: Sub, 40 Hz, 160 Hz, 650 Hz, and 2.5 kHz, plus the Air Band. The Air Band, represented by the Sky High/Gain controls, is a shelf boost adjustable at 2.5, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 40 kHz, with frequencies extending beyond the audible range.
While the Air Band is boost-only, using it alongside the 2.5 kHz shelf cut can produce interesting results. Sky Blue EQ4 is user-friendly, with bands ideal for tone-shaping and enhancing the low-end, rather than precise cuts.
Unlike the hardware EQ4M, Sky Blue EQ4 avoids boosting the entire spectrum when boosting a specific frequency, offering more accurate adjustments. Users should review the developer’s notes on GitHub for potential behavior variations like EQ cramping.
Sky Blue EQ4 is available in AU and VST3 formats for macOS and Windows.
