Developer Lotus Sounds has released Ocean Plate, a free reverb plugin for Windows and Mac.
At first glance, it appears to be just another plate reverb emulation. However, that doesn’t fully capture the plugin’s essence, as it boasts some impressive tone-shaping capabilities.
The usual reverb controls are present, with parameters available for fine-tuning size, decay, early reflections, and pre-delay. The standard functions work well, ranging from short drum plates to expansive washy soundscapes perfect for a synth drone.
Notably, the EQ section stands out. While some reverbs in the market include an EQ for shaping the reverb, it’s not a common feature in freeware plugins.
Ocean Plate simplifies the tone controls with a pair of filters and three bands for broader adjustments.
In use, Ocean Plate delivers excellent sound quality. The reverb tail is pleasing and complements arpeggios and pads nicely. Given its free cost, it’s certainly worth exploring.
Lotus Sound Audio describes the reverb’s sound as warm, aligning more with analog plate emulations than digital ones like the impressive PSP 2445.
This plugin is part of the MAO free plugins collection from Lotus Sound Audio, which includes MixHARMONY, a channel strip, Silver Fox, a VCA compressor, and other tools. These are aimed at mixing needs, with the channel strip being a personal favorite.
Ocean Plate supports VST3 and AU formats. It is a flexible and valuable addition to any free reverb collection.
